Laura M. Cha

Laura Cha is a member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region Government. She is also Vice Chairman of the International Advisory Council of the China Securities Regulatory Commission.

Laura was the Vice-Chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) from 2001 to September 2004. She was appointed by the State Council and became the first person outside the Mainland to join the Chinese Government at the vice-ministerial rank. At the CSRC, Laura¡¦s major efforts were on the reform of the public offer mechanism and the improvement of corporate governance in Chinese listed companies.

Laura was educated in the US, with a BA from the University of Wisconsin and a law degree from the University of Santa Clara. She practiced law in the 1980¡¦s in San Francisco with Pillsbury, Madison and Sutro, and in Hong Kong with Coudert Brothers. She was awarded a Silver Bauhinia Star medal in 2001 by the Government of the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong for her outstanding public service. Laura is a Council member of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and a former member of the Committee of 100 in the US.

Laura is currently an Independent Non-Executive Director of Johnson Electric Holdings Limited, and The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited.
