Xiaobo Lu
Director of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Columbia University.
Dr.
Lu was the first Asian American to be appointed to the position
of Associate Professor of Political Science. He received an
Individual Project Fellowship from Open Society Institute
in 1998-99 and
was appointed a National Fellow at Hoover Institution, Stanford
University for the same year. In 2001, the Council on Foreign
Relations named him an International Affairs Fellow. He has
published widely on these subjects and is the author of the
book Cadres
and Corruption (Stanford University Press, 2000) and co-author
of Danwei: Changing Chinese Workplace in Historical and Comparative
Perspective (1997). He has just finished another book on political
and economic changes in the Chinese countryside, entitled Taxation
without Representation in Rural China, (Cambridge University,
2003). Professor Lu serves on the editorial board of several
academic journals and has received numerous teaching awards.
He received his PhD in political science from UC Berkeley in
1994.
